as opposed to

linked to the Noun "opposition" and the Verb "oppose", the phrase "as opposed to" is used to show the contrast, difference or opposition between the two things.
For instance, The school emphasized developing the "motor skills" of the students as apposed to just imparting bookish knowledge.
